This year has been rich in fashion and celebrity shows, runways, collections, yet if you ask about the most sensational fashion show I still recover the only one event in my head. It’s not always about business and profit. Tribute is breathtaking, emotional and memorable. Especially in show business where true family relations could be a hard work matter.
A touching Versace Spring 2018 show in Milan I’m sure inspired lots of others. The collection itself was outstanding, it reflected all the classy prints, colours and styles of the famous fashion house. But I will rewind the whole show and start from its end.
Donatella Versace paid tribute to her late loving brother, Gianni Versace, and George Michael who was a soul of 90s. Five original supermodels — Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Carla Bruni and Helena Christensen walked on the runway together, soundtracked by George Michael’s Freedom. That was a true celebration of glory and fashion. Donatella reunited models whose first runway steps were witnessed by talented and one of the most brilliant designers of the XX century.
I remember fashionable Cosmopolitan covers with Cindy, Naomi, Claudia in the mid 90s. Being about 10 years old, I looked through the famous magazines almost every day finding my mom’s collection (she had more than 30 issues stored in her room). Cover girls’ make up was flawless, chic and sexy at the same time. Could you even imagine what finding that treasure meant for a little girl?!
Gianni always brought feminine, flirty accents to his collections and gave a lot of women their fashion style and power. He is an icon nowadays 20 years since his tragic death. Versace late collection was Donatella’s way of answering back to her brother saying she did follow his steps but find her own way of style.
Another emotional moment of that evening: Cindy Crawford appeared on the runway right after her daughter Kaia Jordan Gerber made the show among other models. Thirty years later we see ‘young Cindy’ conquering the catwalk once again. What a night!
